It stands as a testament to Albania's rich Orthodox Christian heritage. The monastery's architecture showcases the Byzantine style, featuring a "free cross" plan and a central dome. The facade includes arches supported by six columns, blending Roman and Byzantine influences. According to researcher Aleksandër Meksi, the structure has two distinct construction phases: the old and new parts. The older section comprises the nave and narthex, while newer additions, including the exonarthex and bell tower, reflect Roman influences.Throughout its history, the monastery served as a haven for monks seeking solitude and spiritual connection. It faced periods of neglect, particularly during the communist era when religious institutions were suppressed; it was even repurposed as a detention center for political prisoners. Restoration efforts began in 1972 to preserve the structural integrity of the church, with additional conservation work in 2001 to maintain its architectural and artistic elements.
