Xhamia Rusan, or the Gjin Aleksi Mosque, is a captivating historical and cultural landmark located in the village of Rusan, close to Delvinë in Albania. This 15th-century mosque stands as a testament to the region's rich Islamic heritage and offers visitors a serene escape.Originally constructed in the 16th or 17th century by the Ottomans, the mosque may have been built upon the ruins of a 12th-century church. It is believed to be named after a Christian convert to Islam, Aleks. The mosque features a columned prayer hall adorned with tile-covered domes and a minaret. Inside, a gallery for the muezzin and a separate gallery for women can be found. The hall also features a frieze displaying the names of God in Islam.One of the mosque's distinguishing features is its exceptional acoustics, achieved through the strategic placement of casks within the walls. The famous Ottoman traveler Evliya Çelebi mentioned the mosque during his visit to Delvinë in the 17th century, describing it as being surrounded by vineyards and gardens.
