Getting There

Walking

From Gjirokastër's Old Bazaar, head west, following the cobblestone path uphill towards the Palorto neighborhood. Signs for Zekate House are present, but asking locals for 'Shtëpia e Zekatëve' can help. The walk is steep but short, taking approximately 10-15 minutes. No costs are associated with walking.
Driving

From the city center, follow signs towards Hotel Kalemi. Continue past the hotel, zigzagging up the hill. A small parking lot is available near Zekate House. Parking availability can be limited, especially during peak season. Parking costs are approximately 100 Lek per hour. Taxis are also readily available in Gjirokastër and can take you directly to Zekate House for around 300-500 Lek.

Its stone walls, narrow windows, and wooden balconies showcase the craftsmanship of the era. The ground floor traditionally held storage rooms, a kitchen, and a cistern. A central staircase leads to the upper floors, where living quarters and reception rooms are located. The main room boasts a beautiful ornate fireplace, a wood-carved ceiling, and walls adorned with frescoes. The house also features defensive elements like firearm loopholes.Today, the Zekate House is open to the public, offering a glimpse into the past. Visitors can explore the various rooms, admire the intricate details, and imagine life in this grand residence. The house also provides panoramic views of Gjirokastër and the surrounding Drino Valley.
