Constructed in the 1700s and partially restored in 1827, the house belonged to the Skënduli family, who were among the wealthiest in southern Albania. The house boasts 64 windows, 44 doors, 12 rooms and 9 fireplaces. The great number of chimneys inside the house was related exactly to the prestige of Gjirokastra families.The house's design includes both an internal and external staircase, a unique feature for the time. The main guest room is particularly notable for its decorated ceiling and wooden poles, showcasing the craftsmanship of the era. The house also features hidden storage spaces and strategically placed functional elements. During the communist era, the house was used as the Ethnographic Museum. It was later returned to the family and opened to visitors.Today, Skënduli House stands as a testament to Gjirokastra's rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the various rooms, each filled with historical artifacts that reflect the customs and traditions of the time.
