Katedralja Ortodokse Ringjallja e Krishtit: A Korçë Landmark

Katedralja Ortodokse Ringjallja e Krishtit, or the Resurrection of Christ Orthodox Cathedral, stands as a monumental testament to the Orthodox faith and Albanian heritage in the picturesque city of Korçë. The cathedral is renowned for its stunning architecture and striking domes.Construction of the cathedral began in 1992 and was completed in 1994, symbolizing the return of religious practices in a country where all faiths were prohibited from 1967 to 1991. Built with concrete, the three-story structure covers 1800 square meters. The cathedral's design blends traditional Byzantine and modern architectural styles.Inside, visitors are greeted by intricate frescoes and beautifully crafted details. The soft glow of candles and the melodic sound of choir hymns create a deeply spiritual atmosphere. The cathedral also hosts community events and celebrations, providing a glimpse into local traditions and hospitality. The exterior features towering spires and an expansive courtyard, offering picturesque views of the surrounding landscape.Once, on the same site, stood another cathedral called the Cathedral of Saint George, a building of historical importance, which was completely destroyed during the anti-religious campaigns of 1968. The new cathedral is considered the most important in Korçë and the largest in Albania.
