Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës, located in the center of Tirana, stands as a poignant reminder of the city's Ottoman past. Constructed in 1817, the tomb was dedicated to Kapllan Pasha, who governed Tirana in the early 19th century. Originally, it was part of a larger cemetery associated with Tirana's first mosque, the Sylejman Pasha Mosque. This complex included six similar monumental tombs, but they were destroyed during World War II, leaving Kapllan Pasha's tomb as the sole survivor. The tomb features a distinctive octagonal shape, with eight carved stone columns resting on stone bases and topped with plant motif capitals. These columns support arches, showcasing the craftsmanship of the era. Although Kapllan Pasha was initially buried here, his remains were later moved to Istanbul, Turkey.Over the years, the tomb suffered neglect but has recently been restored. Today, Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës stands in contrast to the modern buildings surrounding it, serving as a reminder of Tirana's layered history. It is considered a Cultural Monument of the first category by the Albanian government. Visiting this mausoleum offers a unique glimpse into the past.
