Discover more about Kuzum Baba

Kuzum Baba, perched on a hill 30 meters above sea level in Vlorë, is more than just a scenic overlook; it's a place of deep spiritual significance. The site is named after Sejjid Ali Sulltan, also known as Father Kuzum, a Bektashi spiritual leader believed to be buried here. According to legend, after being beheaded, Kuzum Baba carried his own head to the hill where he wished to be buried. In the 1600s, a Bektashi temple (tekke) was constructed on the hill, becoming an important center for the Bektashi sect in Albania. The tekke saw periods of growth and destruction, including its destruction in 1826 and its closure during the communist era. It reopened in 1992 and remains one of the most important Bektashi centers in the country. Today, visitors can enjoy panoramic views, explore the Bektashi temple, and appreciate the serene atmosphere. A restaurant with a terrace and a playground are located near the shrine. Kuzum Baba provides a unique blend of culture, religion, and natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination in Vlorë.
