Follow the Vlora – Kanina road. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. Allow at least 1.5 to 2 hours for the uphill walk.

Kaninë Castle, or Kalaja e Kaninës, is a historic fortress located in the village of Kaninë, just 6 kilometers from Vlorë. Rising 380 meters above sea level on the side of Shushicë Mountain, the castle's strategic position offers panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea and the surrounding landscape.Originally built in the 3rd century BC as a settlement for the Amantes tribe, the castle has been expanded and reconstructed throughout history by various empires, including the Byzantines under Justinian I, and the Ottomans. It served as a vital military post and a center of the Principality of Valona in the 14th century.Today, visitors can explore the extensive ruins, including the outer walls, fortified gates, and stone towers. Wander through the crumbling passageways and imagine the castle's past as you take in the breathtaking views. The site covers 3.6 hectares and provides a unique blend of history and natural beauty. It's a perfect spot for history buffs, nature lovers, and anyone seeking tranquility away from the bustling beaches of Vlorë.
