Independence Memorial: A Symbol of Albanian Freedom

The Independence Memorial, located on Rruga Myslym Shyri in Tirana, stands as a striking tribute to Albania's declaration of independence from the Ottoman Empire on November 28, 1912. Inaugurated in 2012, the monument commemorates the 100th anniversary of this pivotal moment in Albanian history. The memorial's design, created by Visar Obrija and Kai Kiklas, was inspired by traditional Albanian houses and symbolizes the nation's journey from isolation to freedom. The open tower structure, made of steel, features two parts of a cube, with laser-drawn elements inside, including the Declaration of Independence, the double-headed eagle, and human portraits. The monument is 6.5 meters high, 5.5 meters wide and weighs 15 tons.The Independence Memorial is more than just a monument; it's a place where locals and tourists reflect on Albania's past and present.
