The Cloud: Tirana's Architectural Marvel

The Cloud, or Reja, stands as a striking piece of modern art in the heart of Tirana. Created by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, it was originally commissioned for London's Serpentine Gallery in 2013 and later found its permanent home in Tirana in 2016. Situated in front of the National Gallery of Arts, this installation has become a symbol of Tirana's evolving identity, blending innovation with the city's rich heritage.The Cloud's structure is a delicate, three-dimensional network of white steel bars, forming a semi-transparent canopy. This unique design allows visitors to interact with the artwork, offering a space to climb, sit, and experience the city from a new perspective. The structure covers 350 square meters and features stepped terraces, creating a flexible social space for various activities.Since its arrival in Tirana, The Cloud has served as a vibrant hub for cultural events and exhibitions. During the warm summer evenings, it transforms into an atmospheric stage for musicians and theater performances. The Cloud provides shelter while maintaining a connection to the surrounding landscape, offering panoramic views of Tirana's blend of historical and modern architecture.
