However, the structure visible today largely dates back to the 15th century.Strategically positioned 329 meters (1,079 ft) above sea level, Petrelë Castle was an integral part of the signaling and defense system of Krujë Castle. The two castles communicated with each other by means of fires to warn of approaching danger. During Skanderbeg's resistance against the Ottomans, Petrelë Castle was commanded by Mamica Kastrioti, Skanderbeg's sister, adding to its historical significance.The castle itself has a triangular shape, featuring two observation towers. Visitors can explore the grounds and enjoy stunning views of the Erzen valley, rolling hills, olive groves, and surrounding mountains. A restaurant located within the castle offers traditional Albanian cuisine, providing a unique dining experience with a historical backdrop.
