Getting There

  • Car

    If traveling by car, begin in Berat and take the SH72 road towards Ujanik. Follow the road for approximately 25 kilometers until you reach Ujanik. From there, follow signs towards Mount Tomorr Viewpoint. The final stretch is a dirt road for about 5 kilometers. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Parking is available near the viewpoint. Note that the road to the summit is typically accessible only in summer and autumn due to snow.

    To reach Mount Tomorr Viewpoint via public transport, take a bus from Berat to Ujanik. Buses depart regularly from Berat's main bus station; the journey takes about 30-40 minutes. Upon arrival in Ujanik, hire a local taxi or arrange a ride to the viewpoint. Negotiate the fare with the driver, and consider arranging a round trip. A taxi from Ujanik to the viewpoint and back may cost around 2,000-3,000 LEK.

Mount Tomorr Viewpoint, situated in Ujanik, Albania, provides breathtaking views from a mountain range that stretches for 40 kilometers. The mountain is culturally significant and considered sacred by locals, with its highest peak, Çuka e Partizanit, reaching 2,416 meters. The southern summit (Maja e Tomorrit, 2379 m) is the highest point in Albania you can drive to. Mount Tomorr is deeply embedded in Albanian folklore, personified as Baba Tomorr, a giant old man with a long white beard, watching over the land with four eagles. The mountain is a pilgrimage destination for both Christians and Bektashi Muslims. Christians ascend the mountain on Assumption Day (August 15) to honor the Virgin Mary, while Bektashis make an annual pilgrimage from August 20–25 to honor Abbas ibn Ali. In 1620, a mausoleum was built on Mount Tomorr for the Shiite saint Abbas Ali Tomorri. According to Bektashi tradition, Abbas ibn Ali journeyed to Albania on a white horse to save it from barbarism. The mountain's surroundings are protected within the Tomorr Mountain National Park, established in 1956. The park is home to diverse wildlife, including brown bears, wolves, and eagles. The area offers hiking trails for various skill levels, allowing visitors to explore the rugged beauty of the Tomorr Mountains. Reaching the summit provides stunning vistas that stretch for miles, especially enchanting during sunrise and sunset.
