From the center of Sarandë, begin at the waterfront promenade and walk up Rruga Skenderbeu. This road leads uphill towards Lëkurësi Castle. The walk takes approximately 20-30 minutes, offering scenic views of the coastline. Note that the path can be steep in some sections. There are no costs associated with walking to the castle.

Overview

Lëkurësi Castle, known locally as Kalaja e Lëkurësit, is perched on a commanding hill overlooking the town of Sarandë in southern Albania. This historic castle, built in 1537 by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent of the Ottoman Empire, was strategically positioned to control the harbor of Sarandë and the road to Butrint.From its vantage point, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of Sarandë, the Ionian Sea, and the islands of Ksamil. The castle's almost square shape features two round towers at opposite corners, remnants of its original design. While largely in ruins, the southern and eastern sides are the best-preserved.Today, Lëkurësi Castle is a popular destination for tourists seeking historical insights and stunning vistas. The site also features a restaurant where visitors can savor traditional Albanian cuisine while enjoying the panoramic scenery. The castle is open from 8 AM to 11 PM daily.
