Halveti Tekke: A Spiritual Oasis in Berat

The Halveti Tekke, also known as Teqeja e Helvetive, stands as a significant cultural and religious monument in Berat, Albania. Built in 1782 by Ahmet Kurt Pasha, it belongs to the Khalwati order, a Sufi sect, and represents a fascinating blend of Islamic and local artistic influences. The tekke is composed of a prayer hall with a square layout, a small area for religious services, and an elegant portico at the prayer hall's entrance. The interior is adorned with detailed carvings and vibrant frescoes, showcasing dwelling houses, Muslim religious buildings, and landscapes. The ceiling, decorated in the Baroque style adopted in Islamic art, is covered with 14-carat gold plates. The walls below the frescoes feature holes that improve the acoustics in the prayer hall. The portico features five stone columns taken from the ancient Greek city of Apollonia. Above the main door is an inscription dedicated to the tekke's values and to Ahmet Kurt Pasha. The tekke is near the King's Mosque, forming a courtyard with a caravanserai. Visiting the Halveti Tekke offers a peaceful retreat and a chance to appreciate Berat's rich cultural tapestry.
