The Remains of Mansura Tlemcen offer a captivating glimpse into Algeria's past. Founded in 1299 by the Marinid Sultan Abu Yaqub Yusuf as a fortified military camp during the siege of Tlemcen, Mansura quickly evolved into a bustling city with a palace, mosque, and housing. For eight years, it rivaled Tlemcen, becoming a center of trade and development. Today, visitors can explore the remains of the city's massive walls, which once stretched 4 kilometers and were punctuated by 80 towers. The most striking feature is the partially collapsed minaret of the Mansura Mosque, which stands at 40 meters tall and reflects Almohad architectural influences. Though much of the city was abandoned and partially destroyed after Abu Yaqub's assassination in 1307, the ruins still evoke a sense of its former grandeur and strategic importance.
