Discover more about Piula Cave Pool

Piula Cave Pool, or Fatumea Pool, is a captivating natural attraction on the north coast of Upolu Island, Samoa. This unique freshwater pool is nestled beneath the historic Methodist Chapel of Piula Theological College, approximately 26 km east of Apia in the Atua district. Formed by a natural spring emerging from a lava tube, the pool offers crystal-clear, cool water, a refreshing contrast to the nearby ocean. The cave itself features two grottoes connected by a short, submerged tunnel, adding an element of adventure for confident swimmers. The sunlight filtering through the clear waters creates a mesmerizing cyan hue on submerged limbs. Visitors can relax in the tranquil atmosphere of the college grounds, appreciate the beautiful chapel overlooking the pool, and enjoy the convenience of on-site facilities such as changing rooms and restrooms. Fales (traditional Samoan huts) are also available for rent, offering a comfortable space to unwind. Piula Cave Pool is more than just a swimming spot; it's a place of cultural and historical significance. The Methodist Mission purchased the land in 1868, establishing the Piula Theological College, with 'Piula' being a transliteration of the biblical name Beulah. The pool and its surroundings offer a peaceful retreat, inviting visitors to connect with nature and appreciate the Samoan way of life.
