Discover more about Queralbs - Cremallera de Núria

Queralbs, located in the picturesque region of Girona, is the starting point for the iconic Cremallera de Núria, a heritage railway that offers an unforgettable journey through the Catalan Pyrenees. The village itself is surrounded by stunning mountain peaks, including Puigmal, Balandrau, and Torreneules. The Cremallera de Núria is a cogwheel train that ascends from Queralbs to the breathtaking Núria Valley. Since its opening on March 22, 1931, the railway has been the primary access to the valley, traversing 12.5 km and overcoming an elevation change of 1,000 meters in just 40 minutes. The train journey is an experience in itself, with panoramic views of lush forests, majestic mountains, and serene lakes. Vall de Núria, accessible only by the Cremallera or by hiking, offers a unique blend of nature, sport, and spirituality. Visitors can explore the Sanctuary of Núria, partake in outdoor activities like hiking and skiing, or simply relax and soak in the stunning mountain scenery. The valley is located within the Cabeceras del Ter y Freser Natural Park, a protected area of great beauty and biodiversity. The railway passes through four stations: Ribes-Enllaç, Ribes-Vila, Queralbs, and Núria. In November 2008, the Túnel del Roc del Dui, a 1.3 km tunnel, was opened to bypass a geologically unstable section between Queralbs and Núria.
