The pond is fed by rainfall runoff and seawater seepage from Forest Bay, creating a unique ecosystem.The pond consists of two basins, separated by a mudflat during low water levels. The western and southern sides feature limestone substrates, while the eastern side is composed of sand and marl. Widgeongrass thrives within the pond, and the surrounding area is lush with white and buttonwood mangroves, sea grape, and other shrubs.Forest Bay Pond is a haven for birdlife, supporting populations of green-throated caribs, Caribbean elaenias, pearly-eyed thrashers, and Lesser Antillean bullfinches. It's also an excellent location to spot waterfowl, herons, and egrets, including great and snowy egrets, great blue herons, and green herons. Keep an eye out for raptors like the American kestrel and elusive merlin, as well as breeding residents such as white-cheeked pintails, common gallinules, and American coots.While Hurricane Irma in 2017 took a toll on the area, the pond is recovering, and the natural beauty remains. It's a tranquil escape where visitors can connect with nature and appreciate Anguilla's diverse ecosystem.
