Getting There

  • Walking

    Puerto Madero is easily walkable, with most attractions located along the waterfront. From the city center, head east towards the river. Cross over to Puerto Madero via one of the pedestrian bridges. Once in Puerto Madero, the Puente de la Mujer and the docks are within easy walking distance.

  • Public Transport

    Several bus lines serve Puerto Madero, including lines 2, 4, 6, 20, 22, 26, 33, 54, 56, 61, 62, 64, 74, 93, 99, 105, 109, 111, 126, 129, 130, 140, 143, 146, 152 & 159. The Metro Line B has a stop at Leandro N. Alem, which is a short walk from Puerto Madero. A SUBE card is required for bus and subway travel. The card costs around ARS $1.00 and can be purchased and topped up at Subte stations, Tourist Assistance Centers, and kioskos. Bus fares start at ARS $270, while train fares start at ARS $130.

  • Taxi/Ride-Share

    Taxis and ride-sharing services like Uber and Cabify are readily available in Buenos Aires. A short taxi ride from the city center to Puerto Madero will typically cost between ARS 5,500 and ARS 11,000 (€5-€10). Be sure the driver uses the meter, or agree on a fare beforehand. Puerto Madero, also known as the Puerto Madero Waterfront, is a stunning example of urban renewal in Buenos Aires. Occupying a significant portion of the Río de la Plata riverbank, this district transformed from a neglected port into a thriving, modern neighborhood. In the late 19th century, the city faced challenges accommodating large cargo ships due to the river's shallowness. Businessman Eduardo Madero was contracted to construct a new port, which began operating in 1897. However, the port became obsolete within a decade due to the emergence of even larger ships. The area fell into disuse, and various redevelopment proposals were considered over the years. In 1989, the Corporación Antiguo Puerto Madero S.A. was formed, marking the beginning of a significant revitalization project. The area was transformed into a mixed-use district with high-rise buildings, luxury hotels, modern apartments, restaurants, and cultural attractions. Preserving the area's history, many of the old brick warehouses were restored and repurposed. Today, Puerto Madero is one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, boasting the highest property values in the city. Visitors can stroll along the waterfront, admire the modern architecture, dine at upscale restaurants, and explore attractions such as the Puente de la Mujer (Woman's Bridge) designed by Santiago Calatrava, the Museo Fragata Presidente Sarmiento, and the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve.
