Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of El Bolsón, head east for approximately 2 kilometers. You can reach Cerro Amigo from the town center via two routes: Avenida Belgrano (Ruta 40 south), diagonally from the intersection with Pastorino Street, taking Subida de la Cruz; or via Calle Roca east to Islas Malvinas southeast to Subida de la Cruz, turning left. Follow the signs for "Cerro Amigo" or "Subida de la Cruz." The walk to the entrance of the reserve takes around 30 minutes. Once at the reserve, you can either walk up the road or enter through the gate.

  • Taxi/Car

    A taxi from El Bolsón's center to the base of Cerro Amigo takes about 10 minutes. Ask the driver to take you to "Cerro Amigo" or "Subida de la Cruz." The ride will cost approximately 500-800 ARS. If driving, follow Avenida Belgrano (Ruta 40 south) or Calle Roca east, then take Subida de la Cruz. There is a parking area about 300 meters from the entrance. Parking is free.

Cerro Amigo, rising a modest 2 kilometers east of El Bolsón's center, presents an accessible and rewarding hiking experience for families and casual trekkers alike. The mountain, also known as Cerrito de la Cruz, is named for the prominent white cross that has graced its peak for many years, a landmark visible from nearly anywhere in town. As a municipal reserve spanning 53.22 hectares, Cerro Amigo plays a vital role in preserving the region's native cypress forest, one of the few remaining examples of its kind. The reserve also protects a variety of other native species, including radal, laura, ñire, and maitén trees, as well as shrubs like michay, mosqueta, and maqui. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including small mammals, diverse bird species, and various reptiles and insects. The trail to the summit is well-marked and offers several viewpoints, each providing a unique perspective. Mirador Sur looks towards Lago Puelo and the surrounding mountain ranges. Mirador de la Cruz offers a panoramic vista of El Bolsón, Cerro Lindo, and the Cañadón del Río Raquel. Mirador Norte provides views of the farmlands, Camino de Los Nogales, and the access to Rinconada Nahuelpan. The hike is generally considered easy, taking around 30-45 minutes to reach the top, making it a perfect option for a quick and satisfying outdoor adventure.
