Discover more about El Bosque Tallado

High on the slopes of Cerro Piltriquitrón, near El Bolsón, Argentina, lies El Bosque Tallado, a testament to artistic vision and community spirit. Following a massive wildfire that ravaged the mountainside in the late 20th century, local sculptor Marcelo López conceived the idea of revitalizing the burned forest through art. In 1998, artists from across the country gathered to begin carving the fallen trees into sculptures. Over time, more than 60 pieces have been created, transforming the area into an open-air museum. The sculptures reflect the region's culture and the artists' creative responses to the fire's devastation. The primary goals were to breathe new life into the neglected trees, foster creative exchange within the community, and enrich the region's artistic heritage. Visitors can wander through the forest, admiring the intricate carvings and taking in panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, including Lago Puelo and El Hoyo. The experience is a moderate, one-kilometer uphill hike from the parking area. The best time to visit is during the warmer months when the sun illuminates the sculptures.
