Getting There

Driving

From Sierra Vista, take AZ-90 towards Fort Huachuca. As you approach the fort, follow the signs for the Van Deman Gate. Be prepared to show your driver's license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance at the gate. If you do not have a Department of Defense (DoD) identification card, you will be subject to a background check. Parking is available near the museum. Note that vehicle registration is required on Fort Huachuca and is conducted at the Welcome Center as you enter the Van Deman Gate.

Fort Huachuca played a key role in national defense, starting in 1877 when the 6th Cavalry established an outpost to protect the San Pedro and Santa Cruz Valleys from Apache raiders. Over the years, the fort has been home to various military groups, including Horse Soldiers, Foot Soldiers, Buffalo Soldiers, and World War II Infantrymen. Engineers also trained here during the Korean War.Today, Fort Huachuca is a vital center for technical development and soldier training. It houses the Army Electronic Proving Ground, the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Command, the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School, and the world's largest unmanned aerial systems training center. The museum also highlights the human aspect of Army Aviation, with memorabilia and photo essays that capture the spirit of its heritage.
