Upper Goldwater Lake: A Serene Oasis in Prescott

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from downtown Prescott and head south on Montezuma Street. Continue onto AZ-89 South. After approximately 5 miles, turn left onto Walker Road. Follow Walker Road for about 3 miles until you reach the junction with Goldwater Lake Road. Turn right onto Goldwater Lake Road. Continue for about 1.5 miles, and you will arrive at Upper Goldwater Lake, located at 2875 S Goldwater Lake Rd, Prescott, AZ 86303. There is a parking area available, which may have a small fee, so be sure to check for any posted signs regarding parking costs.

• Public Transportation

  If you are relying on public transportation, you will need to take the local bus service (check the Prescott Transit Authority schedule for current routes and times) to reach the nearest bus stop to Goldwater Lake Road, which is along AZ-89 South. From the bus stop, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles along Goldwater Lake Road to reach Upper Goldwater Lake. Be aware that this route has limited pedestrian infrastructure, so exercise caution while walking along the road.

• Hiking

  For those already in Prescott National Forest, you can access Upper Goldwater Lake via various hiking trails. If you are near the Goldwater Lake recreation area, follow the marked trails leading to the lake. The trails are well-maintained, but be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water. Keep an eye out for trail markers to ensure you stay on the right path. Depending on your starting point, the hike may take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
