Discover more about University of Arizona Museum of Art

The University of Arizona Museum of Art (UAMA) has been a cornerstone of Tucson's art scene since its establishment in 1924. From its humble beginnings as an art exhibition hosted by Professor Katherine Kitt, the museum has grown into a world-class institution thanks to significant donations and a commitment to showcasing diverse artistic styles. The museum's permanent collection spans eight centuries and features masterpieces from European and American traditions. Highlights include the Altarpiece from Ciudad Rodrigo, a collection of 26 panels considered one of the most beautiful and iconographically ambitious paintings of 15th-century Spain. Other notable works include Elisabeth Vigée-LeBrun's 'The Countess von Schönfeld with Her Daughter,' Willem de Kooning's 'Woman-Ochre,' Kerry James Marshall's 'Century 21,' Mark Rothko's 'Green on Blue (Earth-Green and White),' and Georgia O'Keeffe's 'Red Canna'. Beyond its impressive collection, the UAMA is dedicated to education and community engagement. The museum offers a year-round schedule of exhibitions, programs, and events designed to inspire critical dialogue and celebrate art's importance in our lives. The Archive of Visual Arts (AVA), a research branch of the museum, provides access to collections of select artists, fostering further study and appreciation of the visual arts. **Note:** Beginning on June 22, UAMA will close to the public for a museum improvement project. Woman-Ochre will be available to view in the Fall of 2025.
