Historically, the park's origins trace back to 1882 with the construction of the Pacific & Great Eastern Railroad, which brought fun-seekers to the area for recreation. The park's natural beauty is enhanced by sandstone bluffs, remnants of an ancient seashore from 350 million years ago.
