The Governor Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center, operated by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, is dedicated to educating visitors about the unique natural environment of the Arkansas Delta. Opened in 2001, the center features a 13,000-square-foot main building housing exhibits that showcase the Delta's diverse wildlife and history. Inside, you'll find a simulated crop duster flight, a model of the Arkansas River demonstrating the formation of oxbow lakes, and a short film about Hernando De Soto's exploration of the region. Interactive exhibits allow visitors to touch animal pelts and observe live reptiles. The center also features a 20,000-gallon aquarium displaying native fish species, such as gar, catfish and bass. Outside, explore over two miles of trails through 130 acres of bottomland forest. These trails provide opportunities for bird watching and wildlife observation, where you might spot geese, ducks, snakes, rabbits, or deer. The center also houses outdoor exhibits featuring birds of prey and an American alligator. The trails include the paved Whitetail Trail and the primitive Armadillo Trail. The Delta Rivers Nature Center is more than just a nature center; it's a museum, aquarium, laboratory, and educational facility all in one.
