    Ron Coleman Mining is located at 211 Crystal Ridge Ln, Jessieville, AR 71949, approximately 15 miles north of Hot Springs. From Hot Springs, take Highway 7 North. Turn onto Crystal Ridge Lane. The mine will be on your left. Parking is available on-site. Limited parking is available during peak season. Parking is free.

    Ron Coleman Mining, nestled in the Ouachita Mountains near Hot Springs, Arkansas, provides an unforgettable experience for crystal enthusiasts of all ages. As the oldest continuously operating crystal mine in the state, since 1947, it has become a premier destination for those seeking to unearth their own sparkling quartz treasures.The mine's history is rich, with artifacts suggesting that quartz crystal has been important in Arkansas for over 11,000 years. Mining in the area dates back to the 1800s, and during World War II, the Coleman Mine was placed under federal control due to the demand for quartz in military equipment. In the late 1980s, Ron Coleman purchased the mine and opened the public digging area in 1991.Today, visitors can dig through the 4-acre public tailings area, with a guarantee of finding crystals worth the digging fee. The mine is located on the Blakely Sandstone Unit, a geological formation known for its plentiful quartz. In addition to digging, Ron Coleman Mining offers a zipline that soars over the mine, providing a bird's-eye view of the operation. A mine tour is also available, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the commercial mining process. The tour includes a ride in a military truck, a view of crystal veins, and a visit to the cleaning and sorting area.The property also features a gift shop with a wide selection of decorative quartz and other minerals, a wholesale shop for bulk purchases, and an RV park for overnight stays. Notably, an 8,000-pound crystal cluster unearthed at Ron Coleman Mining in October 2021, known as the Berns Quartz, is now on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
