The Eureka Springs & North Arkansas Railway (ES&NA) offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the golden age of rail travel. Established in 1981 by Robert Dortch, Jr. and his wife Mary Jane, the railway operates on a restored 2.5-mile section of the original North Arkansas Line, which dates back to 1882. The ES&NA is more than just a train ride; it's an immersive historical experience. The railway features a collection of vintage locomotives and railcars, including the elegant Eurekan Dining Car, offering a glimpse into the past. Passengers can choose from a narrated Excursion Train, a delightful Luncheon Train, or a romantic Dinner Train, each providing a unique way to enjoy the picturesque Ozark landscape. The railway operates seasonally, from April through October. The journey begins at the historic stone depot, built in 1912-13, which houses a fascinating collection of railroad memorabilia. Visitors can explore vintage locomotives, passenger cars, and even a working turntable used to rotate the massive engines. The Excursion Train takes passengers on a scenic ride to “Junction” Arkansas and back, with knowledgeable conductors sharing insights into the region's railroad history. The Luncheon and Dinner Trains offer a more indulgent experience, combining gourmet cuisine with the rhythmic sounds of the rails. The ES&NA is a testament to the Dortch family's dedication to preserving railway history. After Robert Dortch, Sr.'s death in 1978, his family moved equipment from the Scott and Bearskin Lake Railroad to Eureka Springs, eventually building the 2.5-mile railroad with several trestles over Leatherwood Creek. The line includes a former Fort Smith Frisco turntable and a wye at the north end at Junction. The railway also leases the former Missouri & North Arkansas stone depot and has added a water tower and a small yard.
