The West Summit Trail is the most frequented path to the top of Pinnacle Mountain, a prominent peak in Pinnacle Mountain State Park. The trail provides stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including Lake Maumelle and the Arkansas River Valley. The 1.5-mile trail is considered strenuous, gaining approximately 750 feet in elevation. The trail begins near the picnic area and gradually turns rocky as it winds up the mountain. Yellow markers guide hikers along the recommended route. About two-thirds of the way up, hikers can choose between an easier, curved path or a more direct, challenging route over boulders. Safety railings are installed in some areas. At the summit, hikers are treated to a 360-degree view. The park itself is a Trail of Tears National Historic Site. The new visitor center near the trailhead features exhibits about the park's natural and cultural history.

Getting There

Driving
From Little Rock, take I-430 to AR-10 west towards Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Follow AR-10 for approximately 8.5 miles, then turn right onto Barrett Road. After 1.2 miles, the entrance to Rattlesnake Ridge Natural Area will be on your left. Continue along AR-300 to Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Follow signs to the West Summit Trail parking area near the new visitor center. Parking is free, but can be limited on weekends.

Walking
Once parked at the West Summit Trail parking area, the trailhead is easily accessible. Follow the paved walkways from the parking lot to the trailhead. The trail is well-marked with yellow blazes. Be prepared for a steep and rocky climb.
