Discover more about Craighead Forest Park

Craighead Forest Park, a true gem in Jonesboro, Arkansas, offers a diverse landscape and a rich history. In 1937, the Jonesboro Young Men's Civic Club initiated the park's development by constructing a levee and creating a 60-acre lake for public enjoyment. This lake, along with over 600 acres of surrounding forest land, was later donated to the city, establishing the area as Arkansas' only municipally-owned recreational forest. The park provides a wide array of activities, ensuring there's something for everyone. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy an outdoor basketball court, a volleyball court, and open spaces for soccer, football, and baseball. For those who prefer walking, running, or biking, a 3.1-mile paved trail encircles the park, offering accessible routes for strollers and wheelchairs, complete with fitness stations. Mountain bikers can explore approximately 13 miles of trails, with color-coded routes catering to all skill levels. Families will appreciate the park's three playgrounds, including the fully handicapped-accessible Rotary Centennial Park. A splash pad provides a refreshing escape during the summer months. Fishing is a popular activity on the lake, which is stocked with bass, bream, crappie, and tilapia by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission. The park also features a campground with 26 RV sites and a primitive tent-camping area, offering water and electrical hookups, picnic tables, and a modern bathhouse. ATV riders and horseback riders can also find designated trails within the park. Additionally, three trails connect to the Forrest L. Wood Crowley's Ridge Nature Center, providing a more immersive nature experience. With its blend of recreational facilities and natural beauty, Craighead Forest Park remains a cherished destination for outdoor activities and community engagement.
