The Hovhannes Shiraz House-Museum, located in Gyumri, Armenia, is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the legacy of the celebrated Armenian poet, Hovhannes Shiraz. The museum is housed in a charming 19th-century building constructed in 1886 from red tuff stone, originally the home of a wealthy merchant. In 1983, the house was presented to Shiraz by government officials, but he lived there for only a year before his death in 1984. Following the devastating 1988 earthquake, the building provided shelter for homeless families until 2003, when it was officially opened as a house-museum. The museum comprises six rooms, each offering a unique insight into Shiraz's life and work. The first room details his childhood, while the second recreates the ambiance of his living space during his time in the house. The remaining rooms display his creative works, paintings, sculptures, and personal belongings. Among the exhibits is a painting by John Steinbeck, expressing gratitude to Shiraz for his hospitality in Yerevan. The museum serves as a cultural hub, hosting events and exhibitions that celebrate Armenian literature and the enduring spirit of its people.
