Getting there

Taxi

From Tsovinar, Teysheba is a short taxi ride away. Taxis are readily available in the town. A short trip to the site should cost approximately 1,000-1,500 AMD.

Walking

If you are staying in Tsovinar, you can walk to Teysheba. The walk is approximately 1-2 kilometers and offers scenic views of the surrounding area. Follow the road east from Tsovinar towards the site.

Public Transport

From Yerevan, take a marshrutka (minibus) to Martuni. From Martuni, take a taxi to Tsovinar, and then another taxi or walk to Teysheba. The marshrutka from Yerevan to Martuni costs 1500-3500 AMD. The taxi from Martuni to Tsovinar will cost approximately 2,000-3,000 AMD. The taxi from Tsovinar to Teysheba will cost 1,000-1,500 AMD.

Overview

Teysheba, also known as Odzaberd or Ishkanaberd, is a captivating historical site located near the town of Tsovinar, on the southeastern shores of Lake Sevan in Armenia. This archaeological site was once a fortified city of the Urartian Kingdom, founded by King Rusa I between 735 and 713 BC. It is considered the best-preserved Urartian fortification in the Sevan basin.The city was dedicated to Teisheba, the Urartian god of thunder and storms. The fortress played a crucial role in the kingdom's defense and expansion. Today, visitors can explore the stone foundations, portions of the city walls, and gates, remnants of a civilization long past. Informative plaques detail the significance of each structure, offering insights into Armenian culture.Surrounded by the picturesque landscape of Tsovinar, Teysheba provides stunning views of Lake Sevan and the surrounding mountains.
