Walking
From the center of Haghpat, head southwest towards the Haghpat Monastery. Follow the road leading out of Haghpat, which is marked with signs. Continue walking along the road for about 4 kilometers until you reach the fork. Take the right path that leads you towards Akhtala. After about 1 kilometer, you will see the Akhtala Monastery Fortress on your left. The monastery is situated on a hill, so be prepared for a slight uphill walk towards the entrance.
Public Transport (Minibus)
Starting from the main square in Haghpat, look for a minibus heading towards Akhtala. These minibuses usually have 'Akhtala' displayed on their front. Once you board, the journey will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to Akhtala Monastery Fortress. After disembarking, walk approximately 10 minutes along the main road, and you will see the fortress on the hillside.
Bicycle
If you have access to a bicycle, rent one from a local shop in Haghpat. Start from the center of Haghpat and cycle southwest towards Haghpat Monastery. Continue along the road for about 4 kilometers, then take the right path towards Akhtala. The cycling route is relatively straightforward, and you will enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding countryside. After about 1 kilometer, you will reach Akhtala Monastery Fortress on your left, with a slight incline leading up to the entrance.
