Construction of the fortress began in the 7th century by the Kamsarakan princes and was later expanded in the 10th century by the Pahlavuni family, serving as their summer residence. Its strategic location, at an altitude of 2,300 meters, made it a vital defensive point for the Armenian Kingdom.
