Car
If you're traveling by car, head towards Vanadzor, the largest city in the Lori region. From Vanadzor, take the E117 highway north towards Stepanavan. After about 15 kilometers, take the exit for Stepanavan, and follow the signs for the Tashir region. Continue on the road until you reach the village of Matosavank, which is located about 5 kilometers from Stepanavan. The monastery is situated on a hill, and you will see it from the road. Park your car in the designated area and take a short walk uphill to reach the monastery.
Public Transportation
To reach Matosavank Monastery using public transportation, start by taking a minibus (marshrutka) from Yerevan to Vanadzor, which costs about 1,500 AMD and takes around 2-3 hours. Once in Vanadzor, transfer to a minibus heading to Stepanavan; the fare is approximately 500 AMD and the journey takes about 30 minutes. Upon arrival in Stepanavan, you can either take a taxi (which may cost around 1,000-2,000 AMD) to Matosavank Monastery or walk the 5 kilometers, enjoying the scenic views along the way. If you choose to walk, follow the signs towards Tashir and look for local markers directing you to the monastery.

For a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Vanadzor or Stepanavan. Taxis can be booked via local services or through apps available in the region. The fare from Vanadzor to Matosavank Monastery should be around 2,500-3,500 AMD, while from Stepanavan it may be around 1,000-1,500 AMD. This option is particularly convenient if you are traveling in a group or prefer a hassle-free journey.
