Jukhtakvank Monastery, also known as Jukhtak Vank, is a captivating monastic complex dating back to the 11th or 12th century. Located 3.2 km northwest of Dilijan in Armenia's Tavush Province, the monastery is nestled in a clearing within Dilijan National Park. The name 'Jukhtakvank' translates to 'paired temple,' referring to the two churches that comprise the complex: Surb Grigor (St. Gregory) and Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God).Surb Grigor, the larger of the two, showcases a cruciform central-plan design. While its dome and drum have collapsed, the exterior walls remain standing, reinforced with metal supports. Surb Astvatsatsin, built in 1201, is a smaller church located west of Surb Grigor. It features a single-nave basilica design with a vaulted ceiling and a gable roof. The monastery also features medieval khachkars (stone crosses) adorned with intricate carvings and a small, ancient burial ground.Visitors can explore the monastery's historical and architectural significance while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty of the surrounding forest. The site offers a tranquil escape and a chance to connect with Armenia's rich cultural and religious heritage.
