Getting there

Walking

From Dilijan Town Hall, head northeast on Gayi Street, then continue onto Myasnikyan Street until the roundabout. Take the second exit onto Aghavnavank Street and proceed straight for approximately 1.5 km until you spot a sign indicating the trail to Jukhtakvank Monastery. Follow the well-marked trail uphill for about 30-40 minutes through Dilijan National Park to reach the monastery. No entrance fee is required.

Public Transport

From Dilijan's main bus station on Myasnikyan Street, take a marshrutka (minibus) towards Aghavnavank. Inform the driver you're going to Jukhtakvank Monastery. After a 15-20 minute ride, the driver will drop you off near the hiking trail entrance. From there, follow the marked trail for 30-40 minutes to the monastery. Minibus fare is approximately 300-400 AMD. No entrance fee is required.

Taxi

Hire a taxi from Dilijan to Jukhtakvank Monastery for a direct route. The ride takes about 15-20 minutes. Jukhtakvank Monastery, also known as Jukhtak Vank, is a captivating monastic complex dating back to the 11th or 12th century. Located 3.2 km northwest of Dilijan in Armenia's Tavush Province, the monastery is nestled in a clearing within Dilijan National Park. The name 'Jukhtakvank' translates to 'paired temple,' referring to the two churches that comprise the complex: Surb Grigor (St. Gregory) and Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God).Surb Grigor, the larger of the two, showcases a cruciform central-plan design. While its dome and drum have collapsed, the exterior walls remain standing, reinforced with metal supports. Surb Astvatsatsin, built in 1201, is a smaller church located west of Surb Grigor. It features a single-nave basilica design with a vaulted ceiling and a gable roof. The monastery also features medieval khachkars (stone crosses) adorned with intricate carvings and a small, ancient burial ground.Visitors can explore the monastery's historical and architectural significance while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty of the surrounding forest. The site offers a tranquil escape and a chance to connect with Armenia's rich cultural and religious heritage.
