Odzi Port: Armenia's Healing Spring

Odzi Port, poetically known as the 'Snake's Navel,' is a captivating natural spring steeped in Armenian legend and lore. Located near the village of Ardvi in the Lori region, this site is more than just a scenic spot; it's a place where history, mythology, and the tranquility of nature converge. The legend of Odzi Port tells the tale of a sage and a fearsome dragon (vishap). According to the story, the sage, residing in a school with his disciples, confronted a dragon that terrorized the villagers. With his staff, the sage struck the dragon, commanding it to turn to stone and release a healing spring from its heart. The legend says that the spring's water has healing properties. The Yerevan Geology Institute has confirmed the presence of silver and gold elements in the water. Today, visitors can witness two stone veins that appear to be 'crawling' down the slope, remnants of the dragon's form. The spring emerging from the larger vein is believed to possess the healing qualities described in the legend. Beyond its mythical origins, Odzi Port offers a serene escape. The surrounding landscape features a picturesque gorge, a comfortable settlement, and the nearby monastic complex, creating a unique and memorable experience. The area is ideal for leisurely strolls, photography, and quiet contemplation, allowing visitors to connect with nature and local culture.
