Getting There

  • Public Transport

    To reach Surb Hovhannes Monastery Complex via public transport, first take a marshrutka (minibus) from Vanadzor to Alaverdi. The fare is around 300 AMD. Once in Alaverdi, take another marshrutka or taxi to Dsegh village. From Dsegh, it's about a 6 km hike or a taxi ride to the monastery. Expect a short walk even if you opt for a taxi.

    If driving, start from Vanadzor and take the M6 highway north towards Alaverdi. After about 26 km, exit towards Dsegh village. Follow the signs for approximately 6 km until you reach the parking area near the monastery. Be cautious as the road can be narrow and winding.

    Taxis are available from Yerevan. A two-way taxi ride will cost about 30 USD. Alternatively, take a taxi from Alaverdi to Dsegh, and then another taxi or hike to the monastery.
