    The Sanahin Monastery Complex, located near Alaverdi in the Lori Province of Armenia, is a testament to the country's rich medieval history and architectural prowess. Founded in the 10th century by King Ashot III Voghormats, it served as a spiritual, educational, and administrative center for the Kyurikian dynasty. The name 'Sanahin' translates to 'this one is older than that one,' possibly referencing its slightly earlier construction compared to the nearby Haghpat Monastery.The complex comprises several significant structures, including the Church of the Holy Mother of God (St. Astvatsatsin), the oldest building dating back to the 10th century. The St. Amenaprkich (Holy Savior) Church, built in 966, is the largest and most prominent building in the complex, distinguished by its cross-domed architecture. Other notable features include the Academy of Gregory Magistros, a seminary, a library (matenadaran), a bell tower, and several chapels and mausoleums.During its prime in the 12th and 13th centuries, Sanahin Monastery was a hub of intellectual and artistic activity, housing a school of calligraphers, philosophers, illuminators, and scientists.
