Mount Aragats, the highest peak in Armenia, is a majestic, four-peaked extinct volcano that dominates the landscape. The northern summit, reaching 4,090 meters (13,420 feet), is the most challenging climb. However, hikers often encounter a 'false peak' just before the true summit. This slightly lower point, about 10 meters shy of the real summit, has become a common turnaround point due to the more difficult and dangerous path leading to the actual peak. Despite not being the true summit, the 'false peak' still provides breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the Aragats crater and other peaks. On clear days, hikers can see as far as the Ararat Plain and Mount Ararat itself. The area is rich in biodiversity, with alpine meadows and unique volcanic rock formations. Hiking to the North Summit (false peak) is best done between June and October when the weather is mild and the trails are clear of snow. Proper hiking gear, including warm clothes, hiking boots, and plenty of water, is essential.
