Getting There

  • Car

    If you're traveling by car, start your journey from the town of Ashtarak, which is the nearest major settlement to Mount Aragats. From Ashtarak, take the road towards the north, following the signs to Aragats. After about 20 kilometers, you will reach a junction; take the left fork towards the 'Aragats' and 'Amberd Fortress'. Continue on this road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the base of Mount Aragats. From there, follow the dirt road leading to the trailhead at coordinates 40.5229727, 44.1919815. It is advisable to have a 4WD vehicle if you plan to drive further up the mountain, as the roads can be rough and uneven. Parking is available near the trailhead.

    If you prefer public transportation, take a marshrutka (minibus) from Yerevan to Ashtarak, which departs frequently from the central bus station. The ride takes approximately 30 minutes and costs around 300 AMD. Once in Ashtarak, you will need to arrange a taxi or find a local driver to take you to the base of Mount Aragats, as public transport does not go directly to the mountain. This taxi ride will cost approximately 2000-3000 AMD and will take about 20 minutes. Ensure you negotiate the fare before starting the trip.
