Perched on a promontory overlooking the Azat River Valley, the monastery offers a unique blend of historical significance and natural beauty. Founded as early as the 4th century, Havuts Tar flourished as a religious and cultural hub between the 11th and 14th centuries. It was a center for manuscript writing, with some manuscripts dating back to 1214. The complex comprises several structures, including the main church (Surb Amenaprkich), the Church of the Hill, and the Chapel of Saint Karapet. The buildings were constructed using red and black tuff stones, adding to their visual appeal. While some restoration efforts were undertaken, the monastery was eventually abandoned in the 18th century.
