Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town, Goris, which is approximately 30 km away from Tatev Monastery. Follow the M2 highway heading south towards Tatev. After about 20 km, turn left onto H45. Continue on H45 for about 10 km, and you will arrive at Tatev Monastery, which is well-signposted. There is a parking area available near the monastery, but be aware that there may be a small parking fee.

  • Public Transportation

    To reach Tatev Monastery using public transportation, take a minibus (marshrutka) from Goris to Tatev village. Marshrutkas leave from the central bus station in Goris and run regularly throughout the day. The fare is usually around 500 AMD (about $1.20). Once you arrive in Tatev village, you can either walk (approximately 3 km uphill) to the monastery or hire a local taxi for about 2000-3000 AMD (around $5-7) to take you directly to the entrance.

  • Cable Car

    For a unique experience, consider taking the Wings of Tatev cable car from Halidzor village to Tatev Monastery. To get to Halidzor, you can take a taxi or a local bus from Goris (around 10 km). The cable car ride offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and costs about 1000 AMD (approximately $2.50) for a one-way ticket. Once you disembark at the Tatev Monastery station, you’ll be just a short walk from the monastery itself.
