The Armenian Alphabet Monument, located in Artashavan village, is a tribute to the Armenian alphabet created in 405 AD by Mesrop Mashtots. Erected in 2005 to mark the 1600th anniversary of this pivotal achievement, the monument features 39 giant stone carvings representing each letter of the Armenian alphabet, honoring the enduring legacy of Armenian language and culture.

Getting There

Taxi
From Yerevan, a taxi is a convenient way to reach the Armenian Alphabet Monument. The monument is approximately 35 km (22 miles) from Yerevan. While specific taxi fares for this route are not readily available, taxi services like Gotrip.ge offer transfers from Yerevan to the monument. The final price includes fuel, unlimited stops, and waiting time. Be sure to negotiate the fare or confirm a metered rate before starting your journey. Alternatively, pre-booked private transfers are available.

Public Transport
To reach the Armenian Alphabet Monument via public transport, take a marshrutka (minibus) from Kilikia Central Bus Station in Yerevan towards Vanadzor. Inform the driver that you want to stop at the Armenian Alphabet Monument. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes, and while you may need to pay the full fare to Vanadzor (around 1200 AMD), the driver will drop you off on the side of the road opposite the monument. From Aparan, you can take a bus to Artashavan. Once in Artashavan, walk south on the main road (C95J) for about 1 kilometer (15 minutes) to reach the monument.

If driving from Yerevan, head northwest on the M1 highway towards Mount Aragats. The Armenian Alphabet Monument is located approximately 40 km (25 miles) from Yerevan, near the village of Artashavan. Follow the M1 and look for signs to the monument. There is a small parking area available next to the site. From Aparan Reservoir, drive southeast on the main road (H-1) towards Artashavan. After about 10 kilometers, turn left onto C95J and continue for 2 kilometers. The monument will be on your right.
