Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Palm Beach area, walk north on Palm Beach Road until you reach L.G. Smith Boulevard. Turn right onto L.G. Smith Boulevard and walk for about 15 minutes. After passing the Aruba Aloe Factory, the Bubali Bird Sanctuary entrance will be on your right. There are no entrance fees.

  • Public Transport

    Take a local bus from the Noord bus terminal towards Palm Beach. Ask the driver to drop you off near the Aruba Aloe Factory. Walk back about 200 meters along L.G. Smith Boulevard to find the entrance to Bubali Bird Sanctuary on your right. The bus fare is approximately $2 - $3 USD.

  • Car

    From Oranjestad, follow L.G. Smith Boulevard heading west and then north for about 2.2 miles. At the intersection, turn west (left) towards the beach. After a quarter mile, find a dirt road entrance on your right. This road leads along the mangroves to the sanctuary's west side. Parking is available near the tower. There are no parking fees.

Located on the northwest end of Aruba, the Bubali Bird Sanctuary is a 49-acre (20-hectare) wetland area that has been designated as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International. Originally created as a wastewater treatment facility, the sanctuary has become a vital habitat for more than 80 species of migratory birds seeking lush vegetation for nesting and breeding. The nearby water treatment facility empties into two interconnected man-made ponds, creating a rich ecosystem that supports a diverse array of birdlife. Visitors can observe various species, including herons, egrets, gulls, skimmers, coots, ducks, and, occasionally, flamingos and hawks. The desert scrub vegetation along the seaward side provides habitat for nesting white-tailed nightjars, yellow warblers, burrowing owls, ruby-topaz hummingbirds, eared and common ground doves, and bananaquits. The sanctuary's observation tower offers an excellent vantage point for birdwatchers to enjoy a true bird's-eye view of the area. The Bubali Bird Sanctuary is conveniently located near the high-rise hotel area and the Old Dutch Windmill, making it easily accessible for tourists. It provides a unique opportunity to connect with Aruba's nature and observe wildlife in a peaceful environment.
