Baby Beach: Aruba's Tranquil Southern Gem

Baby Beach, officially known as Klein Lagoen, is a serene, man-altered lagoon situated near Seroe Colorado on Aruba's southeastern coast. Its name reflects its appeal: the exceptionally shallow and calm waters make it an ideal spot for families with young children and beginner snorkelers. The beach's unique character comes from a man-made barrier that protects the lagoon from the rougher ocean waves, creating a safe and tranquil environment. The water depth remains consistently shallow, generally between knee and waist-deep, allowing visitors to wade far out and enjoy the warm, clear waters. A designated snorkeling area, marked off by ropes, teems with diverse marine life, including parrot fish, barracuda, angelfish, and more. Historically, Baby Beach was part of the Lago Colony, a community established for employees of the nearby Lago Oil Refinery during WWII. The Aruba Esso Club was a social hub in the 1950s, featuring a restaurant, dance floor, and baseball stadium. While the colony has largely disappeared, Baby Beach remains a cherished destination, blending natural beauty with a touch of history. Today, Baby Beach offers several amenities, including restaurants like Big Mama's Grill and Rum Reef, which also features an infinity pool. Visitors can rent chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling gear. The beach is easily accessible by car, with free parking available.
