Discover more about New Farm River Walk

The New Farm River Walk is a must-experience attraction in Brisbane, offering a unique perspective of the city skyline and the winding Brisbane River. This 870-meter-long path seamlessly links the trendy suburb of New Farm with the bustling heart of Brisbane's central business district. Originally constructed in 2003, the first iteration of the River Walk was unfortunately swept away during the devastating Brisbane floods of 2011. However, it was rebuilt and reopened in 2014 with a new, more resilient design engineered to withstand even a one-in-2000-year flood event. The current River Walk is a fixed structure, with piles socketed into the bedrock below the river. The zigzag alignment of the River Walk enhances the journey, providing varied perspectives of the river and city. Along the path, you'll find designated rest nodes with seating, drinking fountains, and bins. The path is divided into separate lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience for all. At the New Farm end, access to the River Walk is via Riverview Court. On the city side, the path connects to the historic Howard Smith Wharves, providing an uninterrupted route to the City Botanic Gardens. Keep in mind that the Riverwalk has very little shade, so it's best to visit earlier or later in the day.
