Discover more about New Farm Park

New Farm Park, a heritage-listed public park in Brisbane, Queensland, offers a blend of history, recreation, and natural beauty. Covering 37 acres on a bend of the Brisbane River, the park attracts over 18,000 visitors weekly. Originally, the area was known as 'Binkin-ba' by the local Aborigines, meaning 'place of the land tortoise'. Following European settlement, it served as a farm to feed convicts in the 1820s before becoming a popular racecourse from 1846 to 1913. In 1914, the Brisbane City Council acquired the land to create a public park, officially opening it in 1919 after delays due to World War I. The park's design, led by Henry Moore, includes a long main drive, pedestrian paths, and ornamental gardens. Key features include the rotunda, rose garden, and a playground with a treehouse. The park also provides picnic spots, electric barbecues, and free Wi-Fi. Adjacent to the park is the Brisbane Powerhouse, a repurposed power station that now serves as an arts centre. Today, New Farm Park remains a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a space for relaxation, recreation, and community events.
