The 'New Jetty' was then built in 1928 to accommodate the growing maritime traffic. This new structure extended 650 meters into the sea from Belongil Beach, facilitating the transport of goods and passengers. The 'New Jetty' was equipped with cranes to load ships and even lift fishing boats for servicing. Unfortunately, a cyclone in 1954 damaged a large portion of the jetty, and it was eventually dismantled in 1972. Today, New Jetty Park offers a tranquil space for visitors and locals alike. The park's location on Childe Street provides easy access to Belongil Beach, known for its long stretch of sand and surfable waves.
