    Discover more about Crystal Cascades

Crystal Cascades is a local treasure, a series of pristine freshwater swimming holes and waterfalls hidden within the lush rainforest of the Redlynch Valley, a mere 20-minute drive from Cairns. Fed by Freshwater Creek, which flows from Lake Morris, these cascades offer a refreshing escape from the tropical heat. The area is easily accessible via a 1.2 to 1.5 kilometer paved walking track that meanders alongside the creek. The track leads past numerous rock pools and smaller cascades, culminating in the main waterfall, Wongalee Falls, and a larger swimming hole. The cool, clear water is perfect for a refreshing dip, and the surrounding rainforest provides ample shade. Crystal Cascades is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, offering picnic areas, BBQ facilities, and toilet amenities maintained by the Cairns Regional Council. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, such as goannas, colorful birds and freshwater turtles. For those seeking a bit more adventure, the unmarked trail to Fairy Falls is located near the car park, offering a more secluded waterfall and swimming hole. While swimming is generally safe, visitors should exercise caution and heed warning signs, as there may be strong currents, submerged objects, and slippery areas. Jumping from the rocks and cliffs is not recommended and is often prohibited due to past accidents.
